Growing Hemp for Industrial Purposes to Be Allowed in South Australia

by Lauren Novak (The Advertiser/News.com.au)  Growing and manufacturing hemp for industrial purposes, such as cosmetics, clothing or construction materials, will be allowed in South Australia now the State Government has thrown its support behind a Greens proposal. The change will bring SA into line with other states.

Manufacturing and Innovation Minister Kyam Maher has announced that the Government will support a Bill put forward by Greens MP Tammy Franks when Parliament resumes this week.

The new laws will limit the level of THC — the substance associated with the psychoactive properties of marijuana — in any crops grown in South Australia.

Hemp seeds can be eaten or used to produce hemp “milk” or oil. The plant can also be made into biofuel, construction materials or textiles for clothing.  READ MORE (includes VIDEO) and MORE / MORE (ABC)
